“I will not go green” – That was a response I recently saw on an e-mail, which was originally sent in order to discuss several key issues regarding the upcoming election. In a complete off topic rant set to the tune of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs & Ham, which I must admit was fairly clever, the author seemed to insinuate he could give up a lot of his political positions understanding that no one was perfect but that he would not and could not go green!
Over the past couple of years we have all heard a great deal about Global Warming and/or Climate Change. In the beginning, and even now, many were skeptical about the basis for these claims that the earth was warming and the potential destruction it could cause.
To me it is hard to ignore the scientific facts behind Climate Change and the reality that it does in fact exist. The earth is warming and it is primarily due to our consumer driven approach to life, which has caused a great deal of pollution and waste. Although this has turned into a political issue we must remember that the topic of environment was a spiritual issue before it was anything else.
I encourage all of you to read any or all of the passages I have listed below and dispute the position that God is in fact the greenest of us all. He cares about the world we live in, the world He created and it is our responsibility to care for and maintain it.
I Chron. 16:7,30-34.
Psalms 104:25, 30.
